Understanding NHS Exemptions And Prescription Costs

We accept all NHS exemptions and prepayment certificates in England. If you do pay for prescriptions, however, it’s the standard NHS charge.

From the 1st of April 2023, this will be £9.65 per item.

What Is An NHS Exemption Certificate?

The NHS Prescription Exemption Certificate is a document provided by the NHS to certain patients who meet the prescription exemption requirements. This certificate will allow some patients to receive their prescriptions for free. There are many possible reasons why one may be exempt from prescription charges. If you qualify, you can apply for an exemption certificate. To see a full list of people who can apply for exemption certificates please see the list below or visit the NHS Website.

Are You Exempt From NHS Prescription Charges?

The following people are automatically exempt from NHS prescription charges:

 Under 16yrs old
 Over 60 yrs old
Those in full-time education who are between 16 yrs and 18 yrs old
Those pregnant or have become a parent within the last 12 months
Those who are suffering from certain medical conditions and/or disabilities

How To Use Your NHS Exemption

As a UK-registered pharmacy, we accept all NHS exemptions.

When ordering your medication and prescriptions from us you will need to provide proof of your exemption to be able for us to process your order free of charge. If you’re ordering medicine for someone under 16 or over 60, we’ll automatically apply the exemption, however, if you or the person you are ordering for falls between these ages then proof of exemption will need to be uploaded when ordering your prescriptions.

Please note: If you claim your free prescriptions after your exemption expires, you may have to pay a penalty charge of up to £100. Even if it was a mistake, therefore please ensure that you check your certificate before uploading it.
